Hoch Chapel

On the Mehrnstein, next to the ruins of the castle of the same name, stood a simple wooden building, which standing in front of it could be mistaken for a barn rather than a chapel. The chapel had no windows and only a small vent above the door let light and air into the room, albeit scarcely.

The oldest inscriptions in the chapels "wooden guest book" date from the first half of the 19th century, which was also the period of construction.

The chapel was probably frequented by pilgrims on their pilgrimage to the Maria-Hilf (Mary, Help of Christians) church further down the hill.

In April 2003, the Schützenkompanie Brixlegg (mountain infantry company) began renovating the Hoch Chapel, which stood high above Brixlegg on the Mariahilfbergl. The chapel was solemnly consecrated on 5th May 2005 (Feast of the Ascension) by the parish priest, Josef Wörter.

At the same time, the newly designed rock-cut tomb for Heinrich Knoll below the Heroes' Cross was also given the blessing.

Sadly, the newly renovated high chapel was destroyed by fire on the evening of 6th May 2007.

In 2009, on the Schützenkompanie Brixleggs initiative, work began on the construction of the new Hoch Chapel. The ceremonial inauguration took place on 18th April 2010.
