Clergyman and politician in turbulent times | 1874 - 1960

Until 1934, Rattenberg was hit by severe floods every year. The town has been spared this threat for 90 years. Rattenberg owes the realization of the canal and pump project in a politically difficult time to Anton Schguanin, the director of the provincial building authority at the time.

Anton Schguanin became parish priest for Rattenberg and Radfeld in 1936. He had the interiors of the two churches of St. Virgil and St. Briktius renovated in line with their listed status. For his beneficial work, he was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Rattenberg in 1937.

We will celebrate his 150th birthday and the liberation from the flood on 26.10.2024 at 5 pm in a ceremony in the Rattenberg town hall. All interested parties are cordially invited.
